Being Human Workshop and Retreat
September 16-19, Oregon House, Yachats, Oregon
facilitated by Solihin and Alicia (further details)

OPEN TO ALL, no previous experience necessary!

OregonHouse

We invite you to join us on the beautiful Oregon Coast for three days of inner exploration and discovery. This is a rare opportunity to participate in a Being Human workshop with Solihin and Alicia, and space is limited, so we hope very much that you are able to come! This is a great workshop to do with your partner and is very much focused on how to bring this experience and understanding alive and into your daily life.

As humans, we are equipped to lead both and inner and outer life. When these two are harmonious, they become one, so that our outer actions, thoughts and feelings are guided by our inner Self. This is the essence of being human. In this powerful, experiential workshop we will introduce the Life Forces model that reflects the natural order that we are all a part of, including elements that echo and mirror the material, vegetal, animal, and human realms, our collective evolutionary history and inherited and familial patterns. Because when a genetic predisposition, a feeling, a habit, or a belief takes power or influences us, whether positively or negatively, it exerts a force. These forces may support is or disrupt our natural order. We invite you to join us on a profound journey - in a beautiful setting - using the constellation process, individual and group work to facilitate a wider and deeper understanding of the forces that shape you, and how they can support you in fully emerging as your Self.

Prerequisite: Reading Being Human: exploring the forces that shape us and awaken an inner life by Solihin and Alicia Thom and Alexandra ter Horst. Available from www.beinghumanbook.com and www.amazon.com NB [A recent review of the book]

Workshop - $375 if paid in full by August 15
Three nights accommodations and meals $315
Deposit of $315 due now to hold your place
Balance of $375 due by August 15 ($425 after 8/15)

I find this model is the most comprehensive, integrated and complete of all I have studied. The practice/process that brings this model alive is guided with care, love and perseverance. Life patterns that have become limiting or destructive become recognized and surrendered with support and guidance allowing the growth of the new. The changes are deep and resonant.
Peggy Smith, USA

This workshop has facilitated in me a process of re-connecting to the very essence and essences of who I am and what it means to be a human being. Thank you and God Bless.
Angie O'Rourke, UK

The process of carefully guided self-exploration has given me a way of understanding myself as a truly integrated being. (Eleven years of psychoanalysis did not give me this sense of integration). I know of no other model of human experience (and the human condition) that embodies what it is to be human in all its variations and nuance. The process of exploring this model with the Thoms brought me home to myself in a way I have never previously experienced. A deeply wise approach that integrates body, mind, soul and spirit.
Robert Perry, USA

Solihin and Alicia are superb at facilitating this amazingly grounded, creative process into knowing who you are, why you are here and where you are headed, in relationship to yourself and your life. And it is always with a truly great group of people that we get to discover these gems about ourselves!

Being Human Teacher Training
September 15-20, Oregon House, Yachats, Oregon
Facilitated by Solihin and Alicia

OregonHouse_2

This is an important workshop as it will prepare those who wish to teach the three-day Being Human: understanding the life forces workshops in the Being Human series, and other Being Human related workshops. The training will start prior to, and end after, the Being Human workshop. We will teach around an actual Being Human workshop because it affords us – you, the teacher designate - the actual experience of a real inter-dependent process of facilitator and participants.

Prerequisite: Previous experience of Being Human workshops and a comprehensive, practical understanding of the forces. Acceptance of your application will be based on your individual readiness, experience and understanding of the work. If accepted, you will be required to lead a Being Human book group over a period of weeks as part of your preparation for the training, and write about the experience. Full details on acceptance. Application due July 10. Please contact Diana for application form.

Teacher Training - $475 - includes participation in Being Human workshop
Five days accommodation and meals - $490
Deposit of $490 due now to hold your place
Balance of $475 due by August 15 ($525 after 8/15)

Dear Teachers and Practitioners,
We are delighted to finally be able to confirm that the Being Human Teacher Training and Workshop will take place September 15-20, as that is when the majority of you were able to come, and also the only time we could take our "vacation." We have booked the lovely Oregon House, on the coast at Yachats, and so look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there.

As CFD 4 is happening September 9-12, and Solihin will be joining Beata and Tomas, we hope that some of you will be able to combine workshops. Even if you do not feel ready to take the teacher training, we would highly recommend that you come to the Being Human workshop, even if you have done it before, as it will reconnect you to the core of the work in a deeply profound way.

I envisage the workshop, like the OMC gathering, being a place of change and growth for us all, and for the future of Ad Humanitas and the work. Each of you have a unique contribution to make, and we are looking forward to seeing what arises, and trust that something new will come from this confluence of people, experience and time together in one place. It also feels like a valuable opportunity to solidify and develop the teaching community as we enter this important new phase of having you all share in the teaching of the Being Human work.

We are very much looking forward to being with you all again. It is hard to believe that it will have been a year since we were last in Portland! We hope you will accept the invitation to come and be a part of creating this new and exciting step forward together.
with much love,
Alicia

Message from Solihin

S&A

The weather in Moscow is wonderful, alternating days of light rain, summer squalls and the occasional torrential rains, but mostly lovely azure skies and sunny days. It has been in the high nineties on some days, which leaves us all rather limp and rather unwilling to be proactive - great for the weekends! The city summer exodus feels almost upon us, as the mass exit to dashas and holidays begins to take place. We are now in a new apartment which is near to where we were living, several minutes from a convenient metro station, and near the boulevard which provides a lovely green walkway around a circular route enveloping the city center.

It is now slightly over a year since we came to Moscow. It has been a very hard and arduous schedule that we have embarked upon for the Corporation that we are contracted to. We have conducted over 42 workshops, normally three days long, some four, and also quite a few 1-day follow-ups. We are often quite tired by the end of each workshop, the psychic field of each and the interior attentiveness which we have developed, and must maintain, makes for a huge output of energy. Nevertheless, we are very pleased and honored to put this work into the hands and hearts of so many new people. We are beginning to see the outcome of how the Being Human model as applied to both a personal interior structure and the corresponding parallel arrangement found in a business is identical. The disarray of the interior structure or dominance of the life forces within a human, may then be brought into the functional dynamic of where the person work's, altering the field and the consequent dynamics of the business or organization. We are getting first hand experience of the archetypal elements of this business world that we now find ourselves, and are learning exponentially every week!

Our sojourn here, of course alters our relationships with the Ad Humanitas community worldwide, as our own focus becomes more directed at the immediate tasks at hand. This leaves, perhaps, a feeling of flight or separateness from us and our practitioners, colleagues and clients. Although this is a consequence of our personal journey and purpose, it does raise the question of how we develop a lasting relationship and ongoing commitment to our practitioners and community. The holding of annual workshops in various places in the world at least maintains intimate contact, and skype and our Facebook community also provides at least, a forum in which practitioners can communicate and ask questions to the community. This has worked well, and for some has provided that sense of contact that they need.

We are hoping and trusting that the momentum of training practitioners will pick-up, and that others will rise up and hold the torch of this work; allowing others to learn it. The teacher training for Being Human workshops is one such occasion in which practitioners of this work can develop further their skills and understanding, and begin to teach this workshop to a wider community. Solihin

The passing of a good man

Bukahri

– a unique spiritual leaderwho dedicated his life to promoting peace, harmony and unity in Jerusalem and beyond –

Solihin and I had the honor and pleasure of meeting and spending time with both Eliyahu and Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bukhari when we were all presenting at the Edinburgh Festival of Middle Eastern Spirituality and Peace. The work they do, and the way they did it, touched us both deeply. We send prayers for Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bukhari, his family, and all the people of the Holy Land. May peace prevail.

Below is a link to some inspiring film of the work of Sheikh Bukhari and Eliyahu MacLean, as well as other people working for peace in the Middle East. After the recent Gaza incidents, it is good to be reminded of the valuable work being done, that often goes unreported in the press, to create peace, trust and understanding between the different factions involved. Alicia

I am saddened to announce the untimely death of Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bukhari, on May 31st. Sheikh Bukhari was the co-director of the Jerusalem Peacemakers and founding member of the Abrahamic Reunion group of religious leaders. He was not only a close friend, but also a unique spiritual leader who dedicated his life promoting peace, harmony and unity in Jerusalem, in the Middle East and the world. This article about his life and legacy was published in the Jerusalem Post. In the last few days of his life, Sheikh Bukhari was planning a trip to Turkey with Rabbi Menachem Froman to meet with the Turkish Prime Minister to present a plan for Mid-East peace. In the wake of the Gaza Flotilla incident, and Sheikh Bukhari's death later that day, Rabbi Froman felt it important to proceed with the meeting, so we sent Sheikh Ghassan Manasra in his stead. This meeting shows that religious leaders and communities have an important role to play to re-build trust in our region. This loss has been painful for all us, in Jerusalem Peacemakers, and to the many thousands of people in the Holy Land and the world who were touched by Sheikh Bukhari's beautiful and unique presence and message. We are continuing the work, including hosting successful the Fourth Jerusalem Hug event that took place on June 21st.

Shalom, Salaam, Eliyahu McLean, Jerusalem Peacemakers, director

KUELIMIKA
KUELIMIKA MEANS 'TO BE EDUCATED OR INFORMED'

Our daughter Rebecca has recently graduated from Gallatin College at New York University. Her self-designed degree was Globalization Education with a minor in French. She won the Dean's Award for graduating seniors and used it to return to Tanzania for six weeks to research the state of refugee camps and education there. I want to let you know about her wonderful blog; Alicia http://Kuelimika.Blogspot.com

AN EDUCATION, TANZANIAN ODYSSEY, 2010

"As many of you may know my higher education commenced with two years spent living, volunteering (Student Partnerships Worldwide) and then working in the southern highlands of Tanzania. It was these years and experiences that provided me the rich foundation for my continued education as well as a personal stake in understanding development and my role in it. This December I graduated from NYU with an individualized degree in 'Globalization Education.' This interdisciplinary study examines the forces of globalization, its affects on individual lives, the movement of people, and the role and development of education for the 21st century.

While living and studying in New York I spent over a year volunteering, interning and researching for theInternational Rescue Committee in their 'literacy for life' program. The program works with refugees from all over the world, offering English language and cultural orientation resources as they set about resettlement in New York City. Of all the refugees I worked with there was one demographic that particularly sparked my interest; a group of people called the 1972 Burundians. These people are over two generations of refugees who fled genocide in Burundi over thirty years ago. Most have now been resettled, or given the choice for Tanzanian citizenship. Yet, the region still hosts almost 100,000 refugees from conflict in the Great Lake region.

Upon my graduation from NYU I was awarded a scholarship, the Dean's Award for Graduating seniors - only just enough money to fund my return flight to Tanzania. This time my proposal is centered on research, query into different approaches of community-based education in refugee camps and development programs. I will return to Tanzania with the intent of furthering the collective understanding of the relationship between conflict resolution, cultural understanding and pedagogy. I hope to spend a substantial amount of time near the camps in the Kigoma region; these refugees hail from conflict in Burundi, the DR Congo and Rwanda. What is being taught on the ground? Are there opportunities for life-long learning? And more importantly, what do these students want, and need to learn in order to thrive in the 21st century? " Rebecca Thom

We would like to also include news from from another daughter Sofiah in Costa Rica , an exerpt from her newslatter:

There are some new developments with myself and the studio.
Since graduating from Naropa University in 2000, I have been developing my work in movement arts therapy, yoga, and expressive healing arts. After teaching Bamboo Yoga, my style of Vinyasa Flow Yoga here at Bamboo YogaPlay for the past 3 years, I have infused the ancient form of yoga asana into my dance journeys, calling it, Danyasa ~ A Fusion of Vinyasa Yoga and Dance.

We also have some exciting retreats and offerings here in Costa Rica and again back in the States in the fall.
