Cranial Fluid Dynamics - what is it?

CFDdisplay

Osteopathy is a model based on 'structure governs function'.

Cranial Fluid Dynamics is a model based on 'inner structure governs structure governs function'.

Inner structure purports to the phylogenetic elements that compose us as humans, and presuppose that internally we carry the energies and therefore forces, when they influence or dominate us, of the preceding kingdoms that emerged prior to us.

This inner structure is composed of four levels - a material bony-tissue-organ structure that carries vibration and resonance. A vegetive tissue and organ matrix which carries our physiological mechanisms creating homeostasis and mediates through the ANS, an animal or mammalian element which carries our peripheral and central nervous system and operates from our rhinencephalon and mammalian cortex, providing movement, defense, strategy, sexuality and territoriality or tribal affiliations and a human element which is master of these sub-orders composed of our neocortex; choice making, language acquisition, higher ideals, morals and consciousness. A fifth structure is also unseen, exists above us, surrounds us, and could be called the fifth structure and it allows us humans to reach for our goals, purpose, values, nobility and to God. This higher life force or aspect may or may not be active in the system.

Each of these internal structures which co-habit our external structure carries energy and when active, dominant, errant or disorganized emit forces which then alter our state.

Cranial osteopathy is based on the notion of a fluid rhythm that mediates the balance and integrity of the structure. Accidents, traumas, physical insults, postural habits, stance, etc., interfere with the motion of fluid homeostasis.

Cranial Fluid Dynamics is based on the notion that the fluid rhythm itself a wave-form, carries many other disparate and discordant wave forms which superimpose and dominate the 'normal' homeostatic rhythm. These wave forms, sitting normally below, but in this case rising to become dominant and are variously a material, vegetal, animal or human rhythm. Higher order rhythms also exist which may manifest during reorganization of the inherent motility of the internal fluid state.

These internal disorders may be much deeper than the insults that we as humans gather or summate over time - knocks and bangs, falls and minor car accidents, twists of our spine, lifting of heavy objects. We presuppose that the internal disorder which prevents normal homeostasis and thus healing of the inevitable externally-mediated insults or accidents is because of the disorder of the internal milieu caused by dominance, absence, conjoined, disturbed sub-rhythms below the norm. These disordered systems are already in the mechanism and are caused by historical and inherited patterns, those triggered off during intrauterine gestation or at birth, physiological, emotional and sensory summation held in the sympathetic-parasympathetic plexi (chakras), mammalian habitual, addictive, protective and territorial behaviors and human beliefs, ideas, concepts, maps and illusions.

InnerDialogue™ is a simple yet complex approach based on kinesiology, as a simple neurosomatic kinetic feedback mechanism and mudras as a protolanguage that create meaningful communication and dialogue. The mudras or hand modes allow us to summate and construct an internal story that emerges out of the client to tell us about the etiology of their dysfunction, or the resource that they need to heal themselves, or the pattern of thought, action or emotion that holds them in their state.

Cranial Fluid Dynamics as the mediating and therapeutic modality, is the hands on mechanism which sequels after the story has emerged. That is, by knowing the story of why their tissues are hurting, dysfunctional or chronically disturbed, we can hold the story metaphorically rather than the manipulating the fluid. CFD allows for a non-violating, non-therapuetic input √ whereby the practitioner does not do anything save hold the body in the manner directed (by the work) and to become cognizant of the fluid rhythms below their hands, without trying to influence the fluid at all, neither place it into a still point not push it into vectors or areas , classically thought of as dysfunctional. The practitioner merely holds the story in their hands, recognizing each wave form for what it is: material - no rhythm, dead inanimate; vegetative - small amplitude, long periodicity energy void; animal - fast and vigorous, superficial, protective; and human which maybe inelegant, unordered, choppy, missing or absent. As we hold in a silence, as we ourselves are ordered, surrendered to our Highest, being neither passive nor active, the being recognizes the story, the history, the new qualities required to reorganize, reorder and revitalize the internal fluid matrix within the physical structure.

Solihin Thom DO DAc was one of the leading cranial osteopaths in the UK during the eighties and early nineties, before emigrating to the US. Solihin built up one of the first interdisciplinary Health Centers in London, starting in 1981. His practice was mainly pediatric, and was focused on family osteopathic medicine in the classic cranial osteopathic arenas. During this time his work altered in direction, as he researched and became embedded in the endless task of why certain segments of the population did not change, even though they were given expert help. His queries took him into kinesiology and the works of Dennison, Goodheart and Beardall. After the tragic death of Beardall, Solihin started to receive spontaneously many many hand modes and a new understanding and approach to kinesiology as a discipline. This ontological variant allowed the practitioner to move from therapist or doctor to physician-priest, an revived model that looks at the interior of the human as the source of illness. Out of this understanding, the practice was renamed 'ontological kinesiology' which laid emphasis upon the notion that the process looks at the factors that inhibit 'being' in its fullest sense.

The work InnerDialogue™ has been taught in many countries of the world, and is used by many different types of practitioners and others who use the dialogue modality to elicit the stories of dysfunction (in whatever arena the practitioner or layperson focuses upon) and allows the client to find the moment and the direction, application, need or therapy through which wellbeing can return. InnerDialogue≥ includes specific modalities modeled under the generic titles of cranial osteopathy, acupuncture, allergy resolution and others.
